Drain the Lakes, Drain the Economy

If you live in Guadalupe County, New Braunfels or Gonzales, GBRA’s plan to drain the lakes matters – even if you don’t live lakeside.

The reduction in property values will impact all school districts, cities and the county, and taxes for all property owners will rise to make up the difference.

Small business owners who count on direct and indirect revenue from those who live on, near or visit the lakes will suffer. And our river beds and lake environment will never be the same.

Please take action and ask the Governor to demand GBRA stop plans to drain the lakes until results of independent economic impact and engineering studies are complete.
Key Messages you can share with local and state elected officials:

  • Drain the lakes, drain our economies. Entire communities are built around our four lakes. Draining them without a plan and a deeper understanding of the impact will be devastating not only to property owners, but all residents.
  • Safety is everyone’s concern, but reasonable plans have been offered – without causing irrevocable harm to our way of life, our economies and the environment along these lakes.
  • Frankly, GBRA is putting profit ahead of the communities they serve. After decades of neglect, the dams no longer make GBRA money, so they are walking away, and are using scare tactics to dodge responsibility.

While our various lake associations are working on long term solutions, we are working across lakes and communities to educate and inform, and demand that our elected representatives take action to preserve our way of life in this region.
